And some wars are just a tad more insane than others:

MEMORANDUM FOR RECORD
SUBJECT: DINING FACILITY ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETING…
QUESTION: SPC R.: Asked if the dining facility could provide Belgium waffles, waffle cones, and more variety of ice-cream flavors.
RESPONSE: MR. L.: Explained that KBR is restricted by what they can order from the vendor’s catalog, but stated that they do strive to provide a constant variety.…
QUESTION: SGM A.: Can the lobster tails be cut in half?
RESPONSE: MR. L.: Due to the lack of proper equipment, this is not possible.
I can’t imagine why more people aren’t enlisting, if the size of the lobster-tail portion is the worst of their problems.
Ah - wait - they do have worse problems:

So, imagine this scenario — you and your buddies have finished another day of training Iraqi troops and are headed back to your FOB (Forward Operating Base) when an especially nasty IED (in the form of EFP, an “Explosively Formed Projectile”) explodes into the lead Humvee in your column of three.
…
A MEDEVAC was immediately called for the litter urgent and critical soldier and the QRF rolled from the FOB. About 10 minutes later the tanks and HUMVEES of the QRF got there and secured the area. The MEDEVAC was denied because we could not guarantee the LZ was not hot. Even with the QRF securing the area, the MEDEVAC was not launched.
MND-B policy states unless there is Zero risk of hostile fire, the MEDEVAC will only land at he nearest FOB.
So basically: don’t get shot outside the gates, because no-one will come pick you up as long as it’s dangerous out there in Iraq.

France loses on penalties - Italy obviously going for the penalty kicks, playing a waiting game. France playing to win the game. Such a pity that Ribery was unable to hit the goal with the ball. Ribery is an awesome player - the stamina of a horse. Running, nay - sprinting up and down the Italian half for a full game. Amazing.
But what I (and everyone else) is wondering about is: what did Marco Materazzi say to Zidane that pissed him off so?

French films are cool. The plots aren’t always totally coherent or comprehensible, but boy are they stylish. An extreme example: Renaissance - check out the trailer.

Looks a bit like a clear-line black+white version of Linklater’s latest: A Scanner Darkly. Both use rotoscoping, but are going in very different stylistic directions.
