Gluttony is a sin

One of these days I’ll figure out how to make a small portion of risotto, but tonight was not one of those nights. And with lovely chantrelles, saffron, pork, red onions, garlic, cheese, white wine, it was hard to resist the second helping…

It was obviously a helping too far. I feel like a football. There’s only one thing for it: boxing training on wednesday.

Crazy Kabbalah

See a video about Scrabble Mania and then ponder the deeper meaning of Pi (the movie). The kabbalah is turning up everywhere…

Blog Upgrade

A new and improved site - the WordPress upgrade went fairly smoothly, only took an hour or so to get all the bits in place. The new WordPress looks great - much more polished UI. A lot nicer admin tools - comment spam filtering among other things. Hopefully I’ll be able to get the phone blogging stuff working now (i want to be able to mail entries and photos from my phone)

Legal MP3s?

Where are they? I see a couple of dubious share-your-mp3 sites, a couple of russian mp3 vendors (probably legit, but there are limits to who I give my CC info to), and a couple of brave tries.

Virgin in the UK has a nice site, but it doesn’t work. Won’t stream samples, and I can’t figure out how to register on the site, so I can’t buy anything there (and I’m not too confident I would actually receive anything I paid for).
None of the norwegian labels have anything. They are all to busy trying to get in bed with Apple to actually do anything.
BMG.com has something - Click2Music actually works, but streams sample songs only - it won’t sell me anything I can keep.

The sooner the incompetent idiots running the music “business” are replaced, the better for everyone.

ScriptUnit meets Visual Testing

Well, we need a user-interface testing tool at work, so I’m hacking away on ScriptUnit again. I’ve added some new words to its vocabulary, so now I can say

set w = GetWindow(”SuperOffice”)
w.Click(”\0\Contact\0\Main\Edit”)
Assert.IsFalse w.IsVisible(”\0\Contact\0\Main\Edit”)
w.Type(”\0\Contact\0\Main\1″, “A new name”)

and stuff like that. By using the window names and id’s to create a path-like string I can adress the windows without relying on mouse coordinates and the like. This should make testing the user interface a lot easier to automate.

I was worried I’d have to emulate the MouseMove and MouseButton Up/Down messages by hand, but it turns out Windows has a whole fake-the-user-input system already in place, easily accessible through the SendInput() function.

Feel like crap

mondays suck.

i feel like crap. like I emptied a bottle of scotch last night, but I only had a couple of beers…
re-arranged my bedromm (lots more room in there now!) but sleeping in a new part of the room obviously gonna take a bit of getting used to. and to top off a perfect night, crazy drunk danish woman singing/shouting outside my window at 3 am tonight was just what i needed.

augh - eyes tired. brain throbbing.

gotta go work out now, then do a tenants meeting at the apartment, then catch some 24, then watch my shiny new Star Wars DVDs. Precious DVDs…

Reformatting the iPod

iPod - lovely, but…

Reformatting it again - iTunes refused to recognize it, the playlist was empty. This might have been static discharge, or it might been an unplugging at the wrong moment. In any case, the error recovery sucks. Synch’ing in all the files requires quite a bit of time now (closing in on 2000 songs).

iPod UI is ok - but I miss being able to tweak the playlists while I’m on the go. There’s no way to shuffle a playlist that I can intuit. I can’t go from an song in a playlist to the album… Lots of minor power-user irritation basically.

NADD

I probably have a mild case of NADD - Nerd Attention Deficit Disorder. I mean — I get stuff done, but more like an hummingbird than a steady and focused turtle. I have a low distraction threshold….

Oh look - shiny!
